University Maths Preparation Program - January 2016
The gap for high school students entering university for the first time is quite significant. Universities invest a great deal in their orientation programs in order to help students realize and plan for the adjustment. The gap is significant in both the level of content, quantity, attitude and responsibility shifts for students.
To help students navigate one of the most challenging subjects at university in first year, we have introduced the University Mathematics Preparation Course.
The course features a series of critical lessons that have been developed in collaboration with university professors that solidify core concepts from school and encourage students to think creatively and critically. In addition, students will learn how to become less dependent on calculators as many universities prohibit the use of calculators in pure mathematics courses in the first year. Finally, 11 university topics will be introduced - with exercises - to help students gain a foundation of the concepts in university mathematics. Students may use these notes and lessons during their first year for reference purposes, especially with regard to mastering the basics of each section.
Students who will enter university in 2016. The program specifically targets students who will enter programs/degrees that require first year mathematics, e.g. BSc, BSc Eng, BCom, BBusSc, BEd (Math Focus)
